The Number 1 College in America: Guess What!

The number 1 college in America is ranked based on the measures of research excellence and/or influence, student choices, eventual success and/or demographics, on surveys, and others. Factors are greatly considered. For example, a survey of the institution’s reputation among presidents, provosts, and admissions deans of other institutions is conducted. This signifies the peer assessment factor of the college. A survey of the institution’s reputation among high school guidance counselors is also done.

Resources such as faculty resources average class size, faculty salary, faculty degree level, student-faculty ratio, and proportion of full–time faculty and financial resources (per–student spending) are taken as important on the ranking. Same is also done for retention and student selectivity. That is, the standardized test scores of admitted students, proportion of admitted students in upper percentiles of their high school class, and proportion of applicants accepted. The difference between expected and actual graduation rate or what we call “graduation rate performance” does not escape notice together with the alumni giving rate.

Now, let’s take a look on the best colleges in America.

Harvard University is a private Ivy League university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, established in 1636 by the Massachusetts legislature. Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning still operating in the United States and the first corporation (officially The President and Fellows of Harvard College) chartered in the country. Harvard’s history, influence, and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

The College aims to advance all of the sciences and arts. Harvard strives to create knowledge, to open the minds of students to that knowledge, and to enable students to take best advantage of their educational opportunities. To further this aim, the school encourages critical thought, leadership, and service.

Among the best-known graduates of Harvard University are American political leaders John Hancock, John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Al Gore, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Barack Obama, current President of the United States of America, graduated from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1991.
U.S. Military Academy, or West Point is also pointed out as one of the best. As many are of familiar of its style, it has an 11:30 p.m. curfew. It doesn’t allow alcohol in the dorms, which must be kept meticulously clean. Students have to keep their hair neat, their shoes shined, their clothes crisply pressed. They also receive a world-class education, at no cost, and incur no debt–except for a duty to their country.

Williams College is also on the spotlight. Its Carnegie Classification: Baccalaureate Colleges—Arts & Sciences. Notable alumni includes James A. Garfield, 1856, late US president; Stephen Sondheim, 1950, composer, lyricist; Arthur Levitt, 1952, former director, Securities and Exchange Commission; George Steinbrenner, 1952, N.Y. Yankees owner; Mark Udall, 1972, US senator; Janet Brown, 1973, executive director, Commission on Presidential Debates; Mika Brzezinski, 1989, television journalist.
The three universities mentioned above are just few of your possible options. Whatever college it may be, you are the only one who can pinpoint YOUR number 1 college in America.
